Biblical

1 Corinthians 15

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you ... 3 ... how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

Roman Historical Accounts

Cornelius Tacitus according to multiple sources was considered, not just a Roman historian, but he was called the greatest Roman historian. He lived 56AD to 120AD. For reference Paul dies about 64/65 AD. John died about 98 AD.

He is quoted in one of his writings (Annals 15.44)

“Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judæa, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind.

The report is referring the The Great Fire of Rome in July 64AD. City burned for about 6 days. There were rumors that Nero had ordered the start of the fires, and in trying to get rid of the this rumor he blamed the Christians. He describes how they derived their name from Christus, who suffered the extreme penalty during Tiberius reign and at hands of Pontius Pilatus. This match the biblical record. Here we have "the greatest Roman historian" referring to Christ suffering and Roman leaders at that time.

Interesting note at end of quote "...immense multitude was convicted, ... of hatred against mankind." Makes one realize these new "hate crimes" sound like interest of people, feel good to people but they can be weaponized. If you don't believe this world opinion, then it is hate crime.

Pontius Pilate

Gaius Suetonius Tranquillua was a Roman historian (AD 117-138)

Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus (AD 61-113)
